Demonstrating thought leadership on the speaking circuit

This mastery-level, dress rehearsal-style workshop is designed to be the last step in the process of preparing participants to demonstrate thought leadership at conferences or to become certified for your speakers bureau.

Learning Objectives

Throughout this class, participants work on their own conference presentations. Taught by two instructors, this workshop uses video-recorded exercises and private, instructor-led video review to help participants identify and develop the skills they need to succeed. Participants learn to

  • Demonstrate thought leadership
  • Be appropriately energetic and persuasive without a heavy-handed sales approach
  • Quickly grasp who is in the audience and modify their presentations on the fly in order to meet the needs of each specific group
  • Create (or modify existing) visual aids to support key messages
  • Manage nervousness and gain self-awareness
  • Engage attendees in a comfortable, flexible conversation while being clear and concise
  • Use visuals effectively
  • Think on their feet so that they can answer questions and address interruptions confidently
  • Facilitate fruitful interactions with attendees
  • Demonstrate expertise when sitting on a panel discussion

Blended Learning
Presenting at Conferences includes access to eCoach. Participants receive reusable job aids, reference materials, and their own in-class videos to help reinforce what they learn in class. Attendees also receive a copy of The Orderly Conversation: Business Presentations Redefined.

Private Coaching and Video Review
Capturing learners on video as they work on their real-life content, which is followed by private video playback and coaching, is an essential element to this training. It helps workshop participants understand their natural strengths (and weaknesses) and grow their self-awareness so that they can apply what they learn in class to the variety of situations they face outside of it.

Post Workshop Coaching
To help workshop participants succeed, especially when the stakes are high, consider adding post workshop coaching. This hour-long, one-on-one follow-up takes place virtually and may be conducted any time after the workshop. Individuals always work with one of the instructors from their workshop to ensure continuity and mutual trust.

Tailoring
Turpin modifies the workshop to meet the specific needs of the business and each individual attending.

NOTE: We assume that slides and other materials have been created for the speakers. If this is not the case, slide and message development can be accommodated and discussed during the tailoring process.

Intended For
Attendees should have a moderate level of presentation experience, but not everyone needs to be at the same level. Often a wide range of skills and experience provides the richest learning environment.
