Advanced Meeting Facilitation
Strategies for encouraging participation while controlling the process
This mastery-level facilitation skills workshop builds
the skills necessary to facilitate high stakes meetings.
During the class, participants work on an upcoming real-life
meeting (a strategic planning meeting or quality initiative,
for example). Participants receive extensive practice and
feedback as they practice managing the group interactions
their meetings require.
In-class exercises are video recorded and followed by
private instructor-led video review and coaching. This
approach helps each participant understand and develop their
skills. Participants will learn how to:
- Engage participants in the process and encourage participation
- Set clear expectations for the session
- Layout (and stick to) a logical agenda
- Engage participants in the process
- Listen effectively and reserve judgment
- Encourage and control discussions
- Manage difficult people and situations
- Connect dots and identify common themes
- Work with scribes and co-facilitators
- Set next steps and assign responsibilities
Advanced Meeting Facilitation includes pre-work, 12-months
access to
eCoach
as well as reusable job aids and reference
materials for applying what’s learned in class to situations
learners face outside of it.
Tailoring:
As part of the tailoring process, Turpin works with clients
to understand the specific needs of each group of
individuals and modifies the workshop accordingly.
Because participants work on their own real-life situations,
it’s often helpful to think of this session as a dress
rehearsal.
Who should attend:
Individuals taking this course should have some facilitation
and basic presentation experience, but not everyone needs to
be at the same level. Often, a wide range of skills and
experience provides the richest learning experience.
