Presenting Globally

Getting your message across the cultural gap

This advanced-level presentation workshop introduces participants to key cultural differences and builds the skills they need to deliver presentations to audiences from cultures other than their own. Online pre-work walks them through the development of the presentation they will practice in class. Pre-work also includes (1) an introduction to the cultural issues that apply to business communication, (2) cultural assessment tools for speakers and audiences, and (3) a comprehensive reference document of worldwide cultures.

During the live workshop exercises are video recorded and followed by private instructor-led video review. This process helps participants identify and develop the skills and techniques they need to deliver cross-cultural presentations. Participants learn how to:

  • Think about cultural issues from a positive perspective
  • Identify key cultural differences that affect communication (and why)
  • Assess and understand their communication style and their listeners’
  • Consider the nuances of each culture and adjust accordingly, both verbally and nonverbally
  • Organize information appropriately for various cultures
  • Provide listeners with a sense of direction, purpose and reason to listen
  • Engage listeners
  • Manage nervousness
  • Be clear, concise and confident
  • Deliver visual aids effectively
  • Understand their role in facilitating interactions during presentations

Presenting Globally includes pre-work, 12-months access to eCoach as well as reusable job aids and reference materials for applying what’s learned in class to situations learners face outside of it.
